Largo Central Park Nature Preserve is not the same as the Largo Central Park although both are near each other. The Largo Central Park is a city park near the Largo Municipal Library, the Largo Cultural Center and the Largo Central Railroad which is a miniature railroad. That park is bordered by East Bay Drive to the north, 3rd St SE on the east and Seminole Dr to the west. It has beautiful Halloween and Christmas light displays.

The Largo Central Park Nature Preserve is 31-acres in area and abuts the East Bay County Club Golf Course. The entrance is on East Bay Avenue, but you must travel south on Highland Avenue to get there. There is a butterfly garden near the parking lot and a multipurpose trail from East Bay to the main gate  The 1 1/2 mile hiking trail consists of three loops. No bicycles are allowed on the boardwalks.

It is almost entirely surrounded by water so you can expect to see alligators, turtles, ducks. Over 130 species of wildlife is reputed to be seen within the nature preserve. The site includes a storm water treatment facility and a settling pond. You can also enter the 5 mile canoe/kayak launch on the West Canal which will take you to Lake Seminole.

Encircling the pond there is a boardwalk with a floating dock. I have personally observed a yellow crowned night heron, an ibis, a pileated woodpecker, a blue heron, a great egret, a limpkin and roseate spoonbill there, documented by these pictures which are my life list. This is one of my favorite locations for bird photography!
